Former Million Dollar Champion Michael ‘Virgil’ Jones has passed away at the age of 61. His passing, which Haus of Wrestling has independently confirmed, was announced by Pittsburgh-based referee and close friend of Virgil Mark Charles III on his Facebook page earlier this morning.
“My dear friends, it is with great sorrow that I bring news from the Jones family of the passing of our beloved Michael Jones, whom we know and loved as Virgil, Vincent, Soul Train Jones and more,” Charles wrote. “Virgil passed peacefully at the hospital this morning and I ask that you pray for him and for his family. May his memory be eternal!”
Back in 2019 and 2020, Virgil made a handful of appearances in AEW alongside Chris Jericho and The Inner Circle. He made his last WWE appearance back in 2016, appearing in a cameo role across two episodes of The Edge and Christian Show That Totally Reeks of Awesomeness on the WWE Network.
Earlier this month, WWE legend Tatanka noted that Virgil had been battling health issues and unfortunately suffered several strokes recently.
Haus of Wrestling sends its condolences to the fans, friends, and family of Jones.
