Jey Uso “quit” the WWE last summer, but his time away from the promotion was brief, as he returned at Payback to announce he had been moved from SmackDown to Raw. His move was part of a trade between brands that Cody Rhodes facilitated that also saw Kevin Owens move to SmackDown. Speculation has run rampant in regard to why Rhodes brought Uso to Raw, but many believe it has something to do with The American Nightmare’s long-term plan to take down Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
While Rhodes has openly spoken about his desire to win the Royal Rumble again and face Reigns in the WrestleMania main event again, there are several other competitors potentially standing in his way. Most notably, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson returned at WWE Raw Day 1 and left the fans electrified when he asked them if he should sit at the head of the table.
In an interview with Sony Sports Network, Uso gave his thoughts on The Rock seemingly calling Reigns out.
“My reaction to The Rock wanting to be the head of the table is, uh, the money, right?” he began. “That’s one match I think we all want to watch; myself wanna watch as a fan. I just don’t think The Rock knows what he’s getting himself into when it comes to ‘The Tribal Chief’ Roman Reigns. He’s got The Bloodline behind him. So, Rock got a big uphill battle, man. But yeah, yeah, we’re ready to see that.”
In an interview with Pat McAfee last year, The Rock stated that a match between him and Reigns nearly happened at WWE WrestleMania 39. According to The Rock, the two sides were unable to agree on a creative direction that they thought would be worthy of such a moment. With that said, The Great One left the door open for the contest to still take place.
