It’s been a tumultuous few months for Billy Corgan’s NWA and the future of the promotion’s content. Back in October, Haus of Wrestling first reported that the “top 20 network” Corgan teased having signed a pair of TV deals with was The CW. One of those deals was for the weekly airing of the promotion’s flagship show NWA Powerrr with the other being for a brand-new reality show focusing on Corgan’s day-to-day running of NWA behind the scenes – something which the Smashing Pumpkins lead has wanted to produce for at least a decade.
However, those plans were put into jeopardy the following month when a controversial segment aired during NWA Samhain in which Father James Mitchell was seen partaking in cocaine alongside various wrestlers and scantily-clad women. Higher-ups at The CW were upset by the spot, which Corgan was the brainchild of and pushed to be on the pay-per-view, and an active push to move NWA content to The CW app instead of their TV channel developed as a direct result. The situation also caused frustrations to grow within the promotion regarding Corgan’s leadership.
Despite Corgan doubling down on his TV network claim following the incident, several episodes of NWA Powerrr were added to The CW app in late November which left some close to the promotion confused over its debut to almost no fanfare. Since then, there’s been radio silence on news regarding the future of the promotion’s content but today, a major update has come to light on the situation.
As announced by NWA on social media yesterday, brand-new episodes of NWA Powerrr will no longer debut on YouTube as of February 6th and will instead be broadcast via The CW app. At the time of writing, there is no word on how international viewers will be able to watch Powerrr once the transition takes effect nor any news on if the as-yet-unannounced reality show will also be available via the app, as opposed to on TV as first teased by Corgan.
