“The Machine” Brian Cage currently holds one of the ROH World Trios Championships, alongside The Embassy’s Gates of Agony. The trio, along with manager Prince Nana, initially won the titles at ROH Final Battle when they defeated then-champions Dalton Castle and The Boys, and successfully defended them this past Friday at ROH Supercard of Honor, fending off the team of Blake Christian, AR Fox, and Metalik.
Many took the win as a good sign that Cage would be remaining with ROH and AEW since his contract had been rumored to expire shortly after ROH Supercard. While the win is certainly good for Cage, it doesn’t appear to be a lock that he has re-signed with the promotions. Fightful is reporting that Cage’s “agreement to work with AEW/ROH” expired at midnight following Supercard. Apparently, his deal with the promotions was up before the PPV but he agreed to work the show anyway.
At the moment, it sounds like Cage has more than one long-term contract on the table to choose from. According to the report, AEW has made some attempts to sign Cage to a short-term deal, with the hope of getting him to agree to a longer-term one.
Tony Khan commented on Cage’s status during the post-Supercard media scrum, noting that he would like the big man to be with ROH and AEW for a long time. According to sources Fightful has spoken with, conversations between both sides have been productive and are ongoing.
Cage was injured when he initially signed with AEW and, according to the report, there was an attempt to extend his deal based on time lost in the ring due to injury but Cage pushed back on that. Within AEW there are said to be powerful people pushing for Cage to be re-signed, while there are also others in WWE that would like to see him sign there.
