Tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite kicked off with the AEW Continental Classic Gold League finals. Jon Moxley emerged victorious after defeating “Switchblade” Jay White and Swerve Strickland in a triple-threat match. Strickland has been on a hot streak of late in AEW, with his Full Gear performance against “Hangman” Adam Page receiving praise from across the industry. Fortunately, for fans of Strickland, he was not the man to eat the pinfall, as that honor went to White.
Following the loss, Strickland took to the backstage area with his Mogul Embassy manager, Prince Nana, to vent his frustrations. With an AEW Continental Classic win no longer in the picture, he turned his attention to his former friend and current nemesis, Keith Lee. Strickland laid down a Worlds End challenge to the big man but was interrupted by Tony Schiavone, who informed him Lee had already issued his own challenge. This is when Nana was presented with a contract for the match, which freaked him out because he had not had a chance to read it. Swerve seemed to agree to the match, wondering if Lee would even show up for it.
With Moxley winning the Blue League finals, he will face the winner of the Gold League finals match at AEW Worlds End. The Gold League finals between Bryan Danielson and Eddie Kingston will take place later tonight on Dynamite. Moxley has history with both men, as he is a current Blackpool Combat Club member with Danielson and a long-time personal friend with Kingston.
