Santana has found himself at odds with his former Proud & Powerful tag team partner Ortiz over the past year, both on and off-screen. The last time either man competed in an AEW ring was against each other in a No Disqualification match on the October 27 episode of Rampage. Heading into the match, the two men exchanged heated posts on social media, with Santana claiming he wanted to be pushed harder and Ortiz hurt that his friend wanted to move on. Earlier this year, Konnan told me in a Haus of Wrestling exclusive interview that the bad blood between the two is genuine, as they have had a falling out over how they have been booked in AEW.
Considering the two men’s lack of presence on AEW TV since the match, a social post by Santana late last night caught the attention of many pro wrestling fans.
“Spent the last 4 months back in wrestling, warming myself up against some of the best in the game,” he wrote. “Now it’s time to officially start this journey and make this the best year of my career. The work begins. Available WORLDWIDE. MSantanaBookings@gmail.com”
The message prompted one fan to reply, “Damn… no more AEW?”
To which Santana responded, “I still am. I just don’t do well with sitting around waiting for opportunities. I go get mine.”
Backstage frustrations in pro wrestling are nothing new, but the social media habits of AEW stars have become the subject of scrutiny. Bryan Danielson has confirmed he is part of the AEW discipline committee and had some say in the decision for the company to part ways with CM Punk. He is also the man responsible for handing out fines to the locker room for bad behavior, including social media posts that can be construed as negative about AEW. Interestingly, Santana recently took to social media and implied he was the victim of one of those fines.
