Charlotte Flair will step into the main event of WWE WrestleMania 39 Night One when she defends her Smackdown Women’s Championship against Rhea Ripley. Both women have clashed on a few occasions in the past, most notably at WWE WrestleMania 36, but Ripley has never been able to pick up a singles victory over The Queen.
Ahead of Flair’s defense on Saturday night, she participated in day one of the WWE WrestleMania 39 media row. On the road to this year’s Mania, Flair was confronted in the ring by Ripley’s Judgment Day ally, Dominik Mysterio, who attempted to get inside her head. Unfortunately for “Dom Dom,” he was quickly put in his place when Flair uttered the sentence, “Whoa! I have a real Latino man at home who calls me Mami, with a much thicker accent.”
The “man at home” that Flair is referring to is her husband and All Elite Wrestling star, Andrade el Idolo. Idolo suffered a pectoral tear last year and has not been seen on AEW TV in months but did share an update in December, featuring a hard-to-watch removal of some bandaging. We asked Flair for an update on when fans can expect to see Idolo back on TV, and if we might see him alongside her in the future.
“Well, he’s recovering from an injury, which is almost healed,” she began. “And I hope to manage him one day that’s my goal.” The full interview is now available on Premier Streaming Network.
It should be noted that Idolo’s absence from AEW TV also coincides with a reported backstage altercation with Sammy Guevara. The two men began exchanging words in interviews and on social media back in early October of last year and things boiled over at an AEW Dynamite taping not long after. Idolo was said to be waiting for Guevara backstage, words were exchanged, and Guevara allegedly pushed Idolo before Idolo retaliated against Guevara with a punch. Shortly after, Idolo announced his surgery and has not been seen since.
