The latest entry in the saga of Jey Uso took place tonight, with Uso falling short in his attempt to capture the World Heavyweight Championship held by Seth Rollins. The two battled it out in the main event of tonight’s WWE Raw, with Rollins coming out on top after some hard-fought opposition from the challenger without any outside interference taking place during the match.
Rollins and Uso were evenly contested in the opening minutes, steadily ratcheting up the intensity until they took each other to their limits. In the closing minutes, the champion landed a series of powerful moves into a Pedigree but took a spear from Uso before he could land a curb stomp. Uso began putting together a comeback, but Rollins withstood a superkick to counter another spear into a Pedigree, allowing the World Heavyweight Champion to land his finisher and secure the victory. After the match, however, Drew McIntyre appeared to let out his frustration on Uso, which has been continuously building for months.
Uso has been positioned as one of the top stars on Raw since making his way over to the brand in September. After splitting off from The Bloodline, including his brother and longtime tag team partner Jimmy Uso, Jey has been making up for past mistakes by teaming up with Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in their lengthy crusade against The Judgment Day. Earlier on tonight’s show, a video package played highlighting Uso’s struggles thus far, with footage dating all the way back to his days in developmental.
As for Rollins, he’s been the only person to hold the World Heavyweight Championship since the company decided to bring the title back into existence earlier this year. Rollins is on a 192-day run with the title so far, and as noted on commentary tonight by Michael Cole, it’s been quite some time since the champion has been pinned. Rollins’ last televised loss was in the WWE Elimination Chamber match in February of this year.
