When CM Punk returned to WWE following the conclusion of Survivor Series, he did so following The Judgment Day’s WarGames loss. The purple and black WWE stable, along with Drew McIntyre, took on some of WWE’s biggest babyfaces in the latest installment of the brutal match, including WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freaking” Rollins, Jey Uso, Cody Rhodes, Sami Zayn, and a returning Randy Orton. It was a tough loss for a group that has found great success in recent months.
One member of The Judgment Day that CM Punk does have some history with is WWE NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio. On the May 13, 2010, episode of WWE SmackDown, Punk confronted Rey Mysterio and his family as they celebrated his birthday in the ring. Among Rey’s family was Dominik, who was only thirteen years old. During his promo on Rey, Punk stated that Dominik knew his father was a coward who would never accept a match against him. Interestingly, it would seem Dominik agrees with Punk these days, as he’s repeatedly taken shots at his father’s integrity in WWE promos.
Earlier today, Punk took to his Instagram Stories to share a screenshot of that confrontation, featuring him pointing at Dominik. Many interpret the post as a tease that Punk wants to have a match with the young star, who lost to Orton this past Monday night on Raw. With the kind of positive reactions Punk has been receiving, along with the nuclear heat Dominik gets, a collision between the two could generate a lot of noise.
One place where a match between Punk and Dominik could take place is WWE NXT, as the current North American Champion, Dominik, and The Judgment Day have become regular fixtures on Tuesday nights. WWE has also looked to beef up the show when it occasionally goes head-to-head with AEW, and Punk making a trip to face Dominik in such a scenario would undoubtedly draw eyeballs to the show.
