At AEW Full Gear, MJF successfully defended his ROH World Tag Team and AEW World Championships. Those victories did not come easily, as Friedman sustained injuries during his main event match against Bullet Club Gold leader “Switchblade” Jay White. During the bout, Friedman reportedly agitated previous damage to his shoulder and suffered a dislocated hip, which had to be popped back in after the match. Since then, Friedman has agreed to an AEW World Championship defense next month at Worlds End against Samoa Joe, despite sporting a cane and visibly looking less than one hundred percent.
Earlier today, Friedman took to X to give an update on his injury in a since-deleted post.
“I just got an MRI,” he began. “I tore my labrum in my left shoulder. I’ll be defending my title at worlds end. I believe in AEW.”
Fightful reports that the injury is legitimate.
The news that Friedman is suffering from a torn labrum is undoubtedly bad news for AEW President Tony Khan, who has seemingly built AEW programming around the young star. Of course, the blow comes as WWE adds another marquee name to its roster, CM Punk. Khan was asked about Punk’s return to WWE earlier today but said legally, he is not allowed to comment on it.
