Last year, WWE brought the WarGames stipulation to the Survivor Series Premium Live Event for the very first time. The stipulation was originally revived in the WWE NXT brand back in 2017 and was used annually at NXT TakeOver: WarGames events until 2021. With Survivor Series adopting WarGames, last year’s event was specially named ‘Survivor Series WarGames’ and saw the likes of The Bloodline, The Brawling Brutes, and Damage CTRL compete inside the deadly structure.
With just a few weeks to go till the 2023 Survivor Series, it’s been unclear if WarGames will return to the event or if the stipulation being featured on the 2022 PLE was simply a one-off special. A new report has now clarified all of the above.
Fightful Select reports that WarGames is currently set to return at Survivor Series next month. A men’s WarGames match is said to be planned for the event whilst the status of a women’s WarGames match is currently unknown. The outlet also noted that The Judgement Day is highly likely to be involved in the men’s match although details surrounding the bout are yet to be fully confirmed.
The two WarGames matches featured at last year’s Survivor Series saw The Bloodline go to war with The Brawling Brutes, Drew McIntyre, and Kevin Owens on the men’s side of things whilst the women’s match saw Bianca Belair, Alexa Bliss, Asuka, Mia Yim and Becky Lynch take on Damage CTRL, Nikki Cross, and Rhea Ripley. The men’s match was particularly notable, playing a key part in Sami Zayn’s storyline with The Bloodline that ultimately led Zayn to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Elimination Chamber in Montreal.
