During his time in AEW, CM Punk occasionally tagged with current AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR. Combined, the trio was known as CMFTR. Their last match as a group took place on the August 12 edition of AEW Collision, losing to then-AEW World Trios Champions The House Of Black. A few weeks later, Punk was officially terminated by AEW. His termination followed an internal investigation into a backstage altercation he had with Jack Perry at AEW All In London.
Yesterday, FTR’s Dax Harwood, real name David Harwood, officially filed to trademark CMFTR with the USPTO. The lawyer responsible for the filing is “Gimmick Attorney” Michael E. Dockins. The trademark is in regard to the following:
Entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests; Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, live appearances by a professional wrestlers and sports entertainers; Entertainment services, namely, personal appearances by a professional wrestlers and sports entertainers; Entertainment services, namely, televised appearances by a professional wrestlers and sports entertainers; Providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; Providing online interviews featuring professional wrestlers and sports entertainers in the field of professional wrestling and sports entertainment for entertainment purposes
The filing is interesting since FTR is signed to a new, multi-year deal with AEW. Punk, on the other hand, does not look to be returning to AEW anytime soon, if ever. In fact, earlier today, it was reported that Punk has been in talks with WWE about a return to the promotion. If he does return, it is being speculated it could be at WWE Survivor Series next month in Chicago.
