At AEW All In back in August, Nigel McGuinness announced the event had broken the world record for the highest-paid attendance ever at a professional wrestling event with a figure of 81,035. That number was brought into question a few weeks later, however, when Wrestlenomics reported that the turnstile count for the event was actually just 72,265 per information from the local government.
The waters were muddied even further when local government claimed just last week that the total attendance of the event was actually 85,528. Wrestlenomics’ Brandon Thurston attempted to receive clarification on that figure and has since presumed it to be the figure of tickets distributed for the event instead. With three different figures now public for All In, including one larger than AEW’s own announced figure, fans have been left wondering why 81,035 was specifically made public by the promotion.
A fan recently put that question to Dave Meltzer on X, who responded: “For whatever reason, AEW made the decision to announce paid attendance rather than total, which is unusual for pro wrestling historically.” Meltzer’s post attracted the attention of the AEW President himself, who replied in order to finally set the record straight on All In’s announced attendance figure.
“The reason I announced the actual paid attendance 81,035 tickets sold, instead of saying over 85,000 tix distributed,” Khan wrote in a post to X, “is because our 81,035 sold at #AEWAllIn @WembleyStadium in London is the all-time ticket sales record, whereas WCW North Korea shows hold tix distributed record.”
A few hours before that post, Khan also took to X to post a statement on the audio issues that affected last night’s AEW Dynamite. This is the second week in a row Dynamite has contended with audio issues, with Khan issuing an apology to fans for the technical hitches last week.
