Sammy Guevara was conspicuous in his absence from last night’s AEW Dynamite after his huge pinfall over former mentor Chris Jericho to earn the victory for himself, Konosuke Takeshita, and Will Ospreay at AEW WrestleDream. In a backstage segment during Dynamite, Don Callis claimed that Guevara had not been medically cleared by AEW doctors though no further information was provided regarding his status.
During the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that Guevara was off Dynamite due to a legitimate medical issue. Specifically, the 30-year-old is said to have suffered a concussion during the 6-man tag match at AEW WrestleDream and due to the nature of the injury, it is currently unclear when he will be returning to the ring. It is not also unknown when or how exactly Sammy suffered the concussion during the WrestleDream match.
As a result, Kyle Fletcher competed in what was seemingly meant to be Guevara’s spot later in the night as the tag partner of Takeshita in a match against Jericho and Kenny Omega. Meltzer also noted that due to Mark Davis being out of action due to breaking his wrist at WrestleDream, AEW plans to feature Fletcher as a member of The Don Callis Family for the foreseeable future in order to keep him on TV.
Elsewhere on the AEW Dynamite 4th Anniversary episode, Wardlow returned to the promotion for the first time since losing the TNT Championship on the inaugural edition of AEW Collision and it was announced that MJF will defend the AEW World Championship at AEW Full Gear next month against a former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.
