Over the past twenty-four hours, a “liked” tweet by WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels’ X account went viral due to how critical it was of Stephanie McMahon. I am told that it was not Michaels who “liked” the tweet but was “liked” errantly by someone who helps run his account. Like a lot of bigger names with large social followings, Michaels has help when it comes to maintaining his account. We were also told that “obviously” Michaels’ best friend is Paul “Triple H” Levesque, and he has a ton of respect for Stephanie, his wife.
McMahon stepped down from her position as interim chairman and CEO earlier this year in January. Following the WWE and UFC merger, creating TKO Group Holdings, both Levesque and Michaels retained their pre-existing roles with WWE. Levesque continues to serve as Chief Content Officer, overseeing all of WWE’s weekly content, while Michaels remains Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative, also overseeing creative for WWE NXT.
WWE NXT continues to see noticeable gains in viewership now that main roster stars have been infused into the mix. WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freaking” Rollins, WWE NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio, and new WWE NXT Women’s Champion Becky Lynch have all delivered higher-than-average viewership when they grace the screen.
Michaels and Levesque’s final tag match together took place at the 2018 WWE Crown Jewel premium live event. The Heartbreak Kid came out of retirement to team with his longtime friend against two fellow Attitude Era legends, The Undertaker and Kane. In the end, it was the founding DX members who stood tall over The Brothers of Destruction.
Stephanie and Levesque’s final tag match together also took place in 2018 at WWE WrestleMania 34. The power couple teamed up against Kurt Angle and Ronda Rousey in mixed tag team action. This was Rousey’s debut WWE match and ended when The Baddest Woman On The Planet made McMahon tap via armbar submission.
