Last week, word emerged that former TBS Champion Jade Cargill would be leaving All Elite Wrestling, deciding not to renew as her contract ended. Instead, Cargill seems to be WWE-bound, with more rumors continuing to surface about what fans might be able to expect for the wrestler moving forward.
Cargill was a topic of conversation on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, with hosts Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussing the likelihood of her remaining with AEW. Although Alvarez stated he had heard from some within AEW who believed Cargill could remain with the company, the general feeling is that she is headed to WWE. Additionally, it was reported that WWE has already begun working on creative plans for the incoming star, and it is believed she’ll take on a large role right away based on the amount of money the company is paying Cargill. As of now, it’s unclear whether Cargill will head to NXT or directly onto the main roster.
A report from Fightful Select has offered up some additional details, with the outlet confirming that Cargill’s contract had indeed expired last Friday and she was likely headed to the WWE Performance Center sometime this week. While Cargill isn’t currently scheduled to debut on tonight’s WWE Raw or tomorrow’s WWE NXT, she is reportedly expected sign to a contract with the company soon. It was also indicated that things didn’t end poorly between Cargill and AEW, with much of the talent backstage wishing the 31-year-old well as she finished up last week.
After debuting in November 2020, Cargill wrestled her first match on March 3, 2021 on AEW Dynamite. Cargill teamed with NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal to face Cody Rhodes and Red Velvet, who was stepping in for the injured Brandi Rhodes. Cargill (and Shaq) emerged victorious, kicking off a monumental series of victories for the AEW star. Though her run arguably featured an overreliance on one-off matches as opposed to long-term stories, Cargill’s charisma and athletic ability were on full display throughout her time in AEW. Cargill is now following in the footsteps of Cody Rhodes, seemingly about to become the second major star to leave AEW for WWE.
