Former WWE Hardcore and Tag Team Champion Al Snow is about to take centerstage on Netflix with the new docuseries Wrestlers. The show follows Snow as he attempts to grow Ohio Valley Wrestling, the former WWE developmental promotion that he purchased in 2018, into a competitor in the pro wrestling marketplace. It will also put a spotlight on some of Snow’s top talents, like OVW National Heavyweight Championship Jessie Godderz and OVW Women’s Champion Haley J. On the most recent episode of OVW TV, which is separate from the Netflix series but featured as part of it, fans were treated to a familiar but surprising name: former Impact Wrestling owner Dixie Carter.
Carter appeared on the video monitors, giving a pre-taped address congratulating OVW on their upcoming Netflix series and praising her “nephew” EC3 for winning the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship. She then turned her attention to Godderz, who was standing in the ring across from EC3, and told him he needed to listen to Ethan if he wanted to see OVW succeed “because he’s a Carter, and the world needs us.”
Haus of Wrestling received the following when we reached out to Snow for comment regarding Carter’s surprise appearance and potential OVW future.
“We were very fortunate that Dixie was willing to be so gracious and do such an immense favor by making an appearance on OVW TV,” Snow began. “Dixie was solely motivated to help Jesse and EC3 and their story, and Dixie did an amazing job. As far as future plans, I guess all I can say is time will tell, and we will keep our fingers crossed.”
Haus of Wrestling has learned that it was Snow’s idea to have Carter make an appearance in the storyline between EC3 and Godderz, which should be a central feud for the promotion going forward. We are also told that OVW plans to do its best to capitalize on the momentum it will have following the release of the Netflix series and has more surprises planned for the near future. It sounds like Netflix has been happy with the promotion and positive word of mouth that Wrestlers is receiving.
