Yet another championship has changed hands at AEW All In. The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn successfully challenged the House of Black for the AEW World Trios Championships in a No Holds Barred match, giving Gunn his first title win in almost 10 years. Months ago, Anthony Bowens promised to help bring the veteran Gunn a title victory in AEW, and the team made it happen in front of an audience of 81,000. Prior to today, Gunn’s most recent title victory took place in January 2014.
The match featured interference from Julia Hart, with Hart pulling referee Aubrey Edwards out of the ring to stop a pinfall attempt. The Acclaimed and Gunn even delivered a Scissor Me Timbers on Hart during the bout. Eventually, The Acclaimed and Gunn were able to deliver a trilogy of Fame-Assers to score the victory. Gunn notably kicked out of Black’s finisher, known as The End, apparently earning the House of Black’s respect in the process.
Following the match, Black, King, and Matthews retrieved the title belts and handed them over to Bowens, Caster, and Gunn in a sign of respect. Last month, on the July 22 edition of AEW Collision, Gunn and The Acclaimed unsuccessfully challenged for the titles, with Black whispering something in Gunn’s ear after the match that led him to consider retirement.
The Acclaimed and Gunn’s win marked the fourth title change during All In. Adam Cole and AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman won the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championships during the Zero Hour pre-show, and Hook reclaimed the FTW Championship from Jack Perry ahead of the main card. Additionally, Saraya pinned Toni Storm to win the AEW Women’s World Championship in her home country.
