FTR retained the AEW World Tag Team Championships against the Young Bucks at AEW All In today. The bout featured FTR performing their own variation of the Young Bucks’ Meltzer Driver as well as the FTR Trigger, their take on the BTE Trigger. There were also plenty of superkicks on the part of Matt and Nick Jackson and callbacks to the previous matches between the two teams. After a number of near-falls, FTR was able to counter a Meltzer Driver to catch Nick Jackson with a Shatter Machine, putting him away. Following the match, the Jackson brothers declined to shake the hands of Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood, possibly indicating the feud will continue.
Today’s tag match between FTR and the Young Bucks came after a scandal involving Wheeler. The AEW star turned himself into authorities on August 18 following an alleged road rage incident on July 27 that saw Wheeler produce a handgun while driving. As Wheeler’s passport was not seized and no travel restrictions were placed upon him during his arraignment, the match went forward as scheduled.
This was the third match-up between FTR and the Young Bucks, with the first bout taking place at Full Gear 2020 at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida. That time, the Young Bucks defeated FTR, winning the AEW World Tag Team Championship. The teams met again on the April 6, 2022 edition of AEW Dynamite. FTR came out on top that time, retaining the Ring of Honor and AAA World Tag Team Championships.
FTR won the AEW World Tag Team Championships from Austin and Colten Gunn during Dynamite on April 5, 2023, putting their reign at 144 days as of today. Harwood and Wheeler are in the midst of their second reign with the titles, and it remains to be seen what lies next for the team.
