Jinder Mahal has never quite reached the same heights again since his shocking WWE Championship reign back in 2017. The Canadian star stunned fans when he dethroned Randy Orton to win the prestigious title at Backlash and went on to have multiple successful defenses over Orton, Baron Corbin and Shinsuke Nakamura across that summer. After a stunning 170 days, Mahal finally lost the title to AJ Styles on the November 7th episode of SmackDown in Manchester, England.
Mahal remained in the spotlight going into 2018, winning the United States Championship at WrestleMania 34 in a Fatal Four Way match against Bobby Roode, Rusev and defending champion Randy Orton. Jinder lost the belt to Jeff Hardy just eight days later and following a singles to Roman Reigns at Money At The Bank the following June, The Modern Day Maharaja quickly fell down the card and has never recovered. Mahal is now a competitor and manager for Indus Sher on NXT, having moved back to the brand in January this year.
However, for the first time in years, Mahal could be set for a major role at a special WWE event! In the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, it was reported that WWE’s upcoming Superstar Spectacle event in India will feature Jinder, as well as his Indus Sher allies Sanga and Veer, in prominent roles. Jinder also competed on the first iteration of Superstar Spectacle in 2021 where he and The Bollywood Boyz lost in the main event to Drew McIntyre and Indus Sher.
Observer Radio also noted that WWE’s aim with the show isn’t to draw a large crowd or a large gate to the 5,000-seat venue as the company is being brought into the company by their Indian business partners. The event will reportedly air on primetime television in India and was initially planned for earlier this year but was delayed due to WWE’s television partner in India undergoing a merger, which has since been completed.
At the time of writing, the only official announcement for Super Spectacle is that John Cena will make his WWE in-ring return at the event. Cena last appeared in WWE at Money In The Bank in July and last competed at WrestleMania 39 where he unsuccessfully challenged Austin Theory for the United States Championship in the opening bout of the event’s first night.
