AEW is on the precipice of presenting possibly the most-attended pro wrestling event of all time, AEW All In London, from Wembley Stadium. With more than 80,000 tickets already sold for the show, it is currently within a stone’s throw of breaking WWE’s all-time attendance record of 80,709 fans for a single show, WWE WrestleMania 32. A historic show like this deserves to have legendary names and matches attached to it, and two AEW stars hope to deliver on both, Sting and Darby Allin.
The two brooding, black-and-white-clad stars have been aligned ever since Sting made his AEW debut back in 2020. In the years since, the two men have produced cinematic matches and delivered death-defying high spots on a regular basis, including a recent spot that saw Sting attempt to leap off a ladder to the outside, putting Sammy Guevara through a table. Unfortunately, the WWE Hall of Famer fell a bit short and busted up his mouth in the process.
As of late, Allin and Sting have been at odds with Swerve Strickland’s Mogul Embassy, which has gone out of its way to attack the former TNT Champion’s young friend, Nick Wayne. To settle the score between the two sides, a coffin match will be held at Wembley, featuring Sting and Allin taking on Strickland and his Mogul Embassy stablemate, AR Fox. Much like Strickland, Fox has a history with Allin from the independent pro wrestling scene, and their rivalry outside of AEW continued last night.
During last night’s WWA4 event in Atlanta, Georgia, Allin, and Sting surprised the small number of fans in attendance in a big-time way. During a segment involving Fox, Allin, unannounced, appeared ringside, taunting his former friend with his skateboard. With Fox’s attention affixed to Allin, Sting made his way into the ring, sneaking up behind Fox and choking him to the ground with his black baseball bat. Allin then climbed to the top rope and delivered his Coffin Drop finisher to a huge reaction.
This is an extremely rare independent pro wrestling appearance from Sting, who has largely only wrestled for AEW, WWE, and Impact/TNA for the last eighteen years, with occasional one-off appearances for Noah, NJPW, and AAA. He was announced for a major show in Jeruselum, Israel, this summer, but that event appears to be off after miscommunication among management.
