Following the tragic passing of his brother, Jay, Mark Briscoe decided to press on with his pro wrestling career while also carrying on The Briscoes legacy, who were ROH World Tag Team Champions when Jay passed. Earlier this year, at ROH Supercard of Honor, The Lucha Brothers won a Reach For The Sky Ladder Match to crown new ROH tag champions. They were personally presented with the titles by Mark and FTR, who had a legendary feud with the Briscoes throughout 2022.
Since that time, Mark has largely found himself working with Jeff Jarrett, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh. The oddball group took a trip to the Briscoe family farm to help the grieving brother with some of the chores he needed to be done, but since then, the relationship has broken down. Recently, Mark and Jarrett threw down in a Concession Stand Brawl, with the younger Briscoe picking up a mustard-splattered victory.
The next chapter of Mark’s in-ring journey began taking shape a week ago when he was announced as ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli’s next opponent. The two men were set to battle for ROH’s top prize at Death Before Dishonor a week from today, but sadly, due to news first broken by Fightful, Mark has been pulled from the bout due to injury.
AEW President and General Manager Tony Khan took to social media last night to confirm the news.
“Due to an injury reported this week, Mark Briscoe cannot be cleared to wrestle at ROH #DeathBeforeDishonor next Friday 7/21,” he began. “We all wish @SussexCoChicken the very best in his recovery.
“ROH World Champion @ClaudioCSRO is on training sabbatical to prepare for the huge week ahead, with #BloodAndGuts on Wednesday at #AEWDynamite + his championship defense at Death Before Dishonor ppv next Friday. We will address Claudio’s ppv title challenger next week, following the highly anticipated Blood and Guts event on TBS.
“Again, everyone at @AEW + @ringofhonor is wishing Mark Briscoe the very best in his injury recovery. Thank you all.”
Fightful’s report notes that Mark suffers from a serious knee injury that will likely require surgery. Haus of Wrestling sends its best to Mark as he begins his recovery journey.
