MJF began his world championship reign last November and, since then, he has only defended his title twice. One defense was against Blackpool Combat Club’s Bryan Danielson in a brutal sixty-minute Iron Man Match that left the young star with a hematoma on the top of his head. The other pitted him against Ricky Starks, in a winner take all match that also had the Dynamite Diamond Ring on the line.
“Jungle Boy” Jack Perry, Darby Allin, and Sammy Guevara all recently made their cases to the current champion about why they should be his next opponent. So, MJF decided to put together a three-man tournament to decide who will face him at Double or Nothing. The tournament saw Perry given a bye to the finals after his name was drawn out of a hat, setting the stage for Guevara vs Allin in the semi-finals. Guevara, with the help of his friend, MJF, was able to pick up the victory and the two worked together to help The Latin God win the finals as well.
Displeased with the way MJF went about setting up the Double or Nothing main event, Tony Khan, via Tony Schiavone, announced a tag team match featuring MJF and Guevara taking on Perry and Allin. A stipulation was added to the bout, as well, noting that if Perry and Allin were successful, they would be added to the PPV main event. In the end, the duo did come out on top and now fans will be treated to a Four Pillars match at the next big event.
While it has been nice seeing young names featured in the AEW main event, the program between the four men has not exactly lit the pro wrestling world on fire. If you are already looking past this match to whatever MJF’s title defense will be at Wembley Stadium, it appears you are not alone. BetOnline has released their betting odds for the Double or Nothing main event, and MJF has a whopping 98% chance of winning at 1/50 odds.
Darby Allin is the second most likely man to win at 5/1, Guevara in second at 6/1, and Perry closing out the competitors at 8/1.
