In his backyard of Puerto Rico at WWE Backlash, The Judgment Day’s Damian Priest waged war with one of the biggest celebrities on the planet, Bad Bunny. The two men threw everything they had at one another, with Bunny unleashing a flurry of kendo stick shots and Priest dropping the Grammy winner with a Broken Arrow through a production table. In the end, Bunny, with the help of Carlito, Savio Vega, and the LWO, defeated The Archer of Infamy and blew the roof off the San Juan Coliseum.
While Priest may not have picked up the victory in the ring on Saturday, that doesn’t mean the night was a total loss for the big man. PWInsider is reporting that Priest was given “a ton of praise” backstage after his match against the Latin star was over. One source noted that following the performance, and the other work he has done in recent months, he has to be looked at as a top player internally with the company.
Priest will compete tonight in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament, hoping to earn a spot in the finals later this month at Night of Champions. Despite the praise he may be receiving backstage, advancing to the semi-finals, let alone the finals looks to be difficult. PWInsider also reported earlier today that Priest will take on Shinsuke Nakamura and Seth Rollins in his quarter-final triple-threat match tonight, the latter of which is favored to win the whole thing.
Another name that was apparently garnering positive reviews backstage at Backlash was Omos. MVP’s charge took on Seth Rollins in a match that featured his strength pitted against Rollins’ agility and cunning. Despite the fact he was unable to pick up the victory, some backstage are saying this is the best match that the giant has ever had in WWE, which is its own kind of win.
