Tonight, the WWE Royal Rumble will take place at the Tropicana Field in Tampa, Florida. Rumors are currently running wild in regard to possible surprise entrants in the men’s and women’s multi-person matches. Notably, many expect Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to appear in the men’s match. If he does win, it would set up a dream match against Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Whether or not that actually happens, we shall see.
Another name that fans are hopeful to see in action is The New Day’s Big E. In March 2022, Big E was competing in a match on SmackDown when he was hit with a belly-to-belly suplex by Ridge Holland that went horribly awry. Big E broke his next, fracturing his C1 and C6 vertebrae. Fortunately, there was no ligament or spinal cord damage. At a SummerSlam media event last year, I asked Big E about how his recovery was going, and he confirmed that he was taking things slowly and was unsure if he would ever compete again, as some specialists have advised him not to.
At a WWE Community Day event yesterday, I had the chance to speak with all three members of The New Day at once. During our conversation, I asked Big E what he would like to tell fans who are hopeful he will compete in the men’s WWE Royal Rumble match.
“Well, it means a lot to me,” he began. “Now it’s been almost two years that I’ve been out since I broke my neck. So just the fact that people care, that they still even take the time to reach out or offer condolences or kind words or the excitement that you know, hoping I’ll be in the Rumble means a lot to me. So it’s nice to be remembered. I wish I had more declarative answers on what the future holds. I do not but it means a lot to me that people still still are talking about me. So I appreciate that.”
