While not an original “pillar” of AEW, Daniel Garcia has quickly worked his way up the ranks over the two years he has been with the company. Shortly after signing with AEW in October 2021, he became one of the founding Jericho Appreciation Society members alongside Daddy Magic, Jake Hager, and Angelo Parker. The group officially disbanded in late summer of last year, and Garcia reemerged a few months later as a standout in the Continental Classic. While he was unable to pick up any victories early on in the tournament, he did defeat Brody King in his last bout, denying The House of Black member a spot in the finals.
In a new interview with Adrian Hernandez, Garcia was asked what his goals are for 2024.
“My contract is up this year,” he began. “So my number one focus is just, you know, earning another contract and showing that I am somebody that can be built around and somebody that can be fully invested in as a top guy. That’s my number one priority. My priority outside of that is, what better way to show you can be a top guy than winning a title? And I would love love love to win some singles gold in AEW.”
Garcia staying with AEW would not be shocking. The young star has been given ample opportunities to grow and has significantly upped his profile under Tony Khan’s leadership. To that end, the AEW President looks to have taken a particular shine to Garcia, as the son of a billionaire has playfully done the technical grappler’s signature dance for the live crowd and most recently trotted him out to speak to the press during the Worlds End media scrums.
At Worlds End, Garcia successfully tagged with Mark Briscoe, Bryan Danielson, and Claudio Castagnoli against Brody King, Jay Lethal, Jay White and RUSH. Garcia’s most recent AEW contest took place on last Saturday’s episode of Collision, teaming with FTR in a losing effort against The House of Black.
