Last night’s episode of WWE Raw saw Seth Rollins successfully defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Jinder Mahal. The match came on the heels of a heated confrontation on last week’s episode where Mahal made it clear that, as a former WWE World Champion, he was tired of being overlooked. The match gained significant interest the following day when AEW President Tony Khan had a meltdown on social media, deriding Mahal, who had not had a WWE TV match in about a year, for getting a shot at Rollins and his title. Despite some fans calling on WWE to put the title on Mahal as a rib on Khan, the company went through with its initial plan, and the match largely went off without a hitch.
During the closing moments of the contest, Rollins could be seen noticeably limping following a dive to the outside. PWTorch reports that Rollins suffered a legitimate leg injury on the show and had to be helped to the back after his match. Eventually, the champion was able to put weight on the leg of his own accord, but he was still walking with a limp. Fightful has since confirmed the Torch’s report and noted that the company should know more about his condition tomorrow. The Wrestling Observer has added that Rollins is expected to undergo an MRI before deciding what to do next.
The Torch described Rollins as being neither overly pessimistic nor optimistic about the extent of the injury, but obviously, he was bummed. If Rollins is more injured than believed and has to miss WrestleMania 40, that will dramatically affect WWE’s plans for the show. As it stands, all signs point toward Rollins defending against CM Punk on the big show. It was speculated that if Rollins is unable to compete, he will likely be stripped of the title, with a new champion being crowned ahead of Mania.
