At AEW WrestleDream, there was a scary moment where then-AEW International Champion Rey Fenix had to be walked away from the ring by doctors. Fenix has since revealed he was dealing with an “old injury” at the time. Haus of Wrestling was told by a source that the old injury was triggered in his match against Jon Moxley shortly before the PPV when he won the International Championship and that his back is “jacked.” Fenix continued to perform past WrestleDream and dropped the title to Orange Cassidy about a week later on the October 10, 2023, episode of AEW Dynamite. He has not been seen back on TV since.
In a new interview with Denise Salcedo, Fenix gave fans an update on his injury and when he could return to action.
“We are working on the recovery,” he said. “It’s one of my, I think it’s the worst injury, but I’m taking; I’m taking my time. I’m doing a good job in my recovery. I put everything with the doctors. I’m following the doctor’s lines. I’m doing my best, and I don’t think I can talk so much about it, but soon. Soon, I will be in the ring doing Lucha Libre, doing the thing that makes me so happy.”
Hearing Fenix will be back in action soon is good news for fans of The Lucha Brothers. With Fenix out of action, his partner and brother, Penta El Zero M, has largely been tagging with fellow luchadors Komander and El Higo de Vikingo. The trio last competed on AEW Rampage on December 13, 2023, episode of AEW Rampage, losing to Action Andretti and Top Flight.
