Matt Riddle was released alongside dozens of WWE stars last year after the formation of TKO Group Holdings. Following his ninety-day non-compete clause with the company expiring, Riddle entered free agency and began appearing for other promotions. Thus far, he has popped up in MLW and NJPW, but many fans expect to see him elsewhere in the coming months.
Another big name who became a free agent in the last year or so is WWE Hall of Fame inductee Bill Goldberg. The former WCW Champion has outspokenly talked about how he felt disrespected by Vince McMahon for not giving him a proper retirement match in WWE. Goldberg is also someone who has had issues with Riddle in the past. Following critical comments about Goldberg’s work in interviews, Riddle infamously tried to bury the hatchet with Goldberg backstage at SummerSlam 2019. At the time, Goldberg let Riddle know he was not his bro, but it sounds like their relationship has cooled since.
During a recent Signed By Superstars autograph session livestream, Riddle was asked about the hallway incident, and if he would be open to wrestling Goldberg in 2024.
“I don’t want to give too much, but I personally would love to work, William,” he said. “I think William Goldberg would be a great match. I think I could get something out of him that people haven’t seen in years, and I think it; I think it’d be great for business. I know it’d be really good for me, but at the end of the day, you can’t, you know, if he wants to do it, he’ll do it. If he needs to do it, he’ll do it. And I mean, there’s a couple of places we could do that. I would imagine, you know, maybe an AEW? Maybe a TNA? Maybe a New Japan? If it was gonna happen, it probably be AEW.”
