Just weeks after unsuccessfully challenging his long-time friend-turned-enemy Christian Cage for the TNT Championship on AEW Dynamite, Adam Copeland walked into AEW Worlds End hoping to capture his first AEW title. To mitigate the interference that cost him the gold in their first clash, Copeland set up their rematch as a No Disqualification match and the stage was set for Worlds End.
In the closing moments of the bloody and violent clash, which featured shades of Copeland’s legendary WrestleMania 22 clash with Mick Foley, the WWE Hall of Famer took Nick Wayne out of the equation by powerbombing him through a flaming table. Copeland quickly reentered the ring and hit Cage with a low blow followed by a Killswitch to pick up the pinfall victory, capturing his very first AEW championship in the process.
Sadly, however, the celebrations didn’t last long. The former Luchasaurus made his way to the ring and took out Copeland with two chokeslams, one of which was through a chair. He then deliberated cashing in his ‘any time, any place’ TNT title opportunity, which he won earlier in the night on Zero Hour, before being interrupted by Cage. Cage convinced the now-Killswitch to give him the contract after some deliberation and signed it himself, allowing him to hit a Spear on a dazed Copeland before pinning him to regain the title just minutes after losing it.
