Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson got pro wrestling fans’ imaginations running when he confirmed that there were talks for him to take on Roman Reigns at WWE WrestleMania 39. The mega-match would have seen The Rock battle Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, but, according to Johnson, due to a lack of creative vision for how it would play out, it was called off. All hope is not lost for the dream bout to take place on The Grandest Stage of Them All, as Johnson definitively left the door open for it to take place.
On Instagram, Johnson shared a series of photos from his recent Make-A-Wish Day appearance and added a note that left WWE fans feeling optimistic.
“Droppin that old school Rock theme music for my boy Jayden Harden from @makeawishamerica!,” Johnson began. “Jayden is 15 and he’s awesome!! Jayden’s wish was to meet, “the people’s champ”. He is a HUUUUUGE ROCK & pro wrestling fan and we had a BLAST chopping up his favorite wrestlers and matches!! I LOVE pro wrestling so my time with Jayden was super dope! 💪🏾
“I told him a little secret 🤫 that may or may not involve some dude returning to WWE to lay the SmackDown on all their candy asses 😉👋🏾 There’s a lot of negative and toxic noise out there in the world – but there’s a lot of positive, good things too, and Jayden is one of them. #MakeAWishDay #21Kids #BestDayEver“
If The Rock does return to WWE to begin a feud with Reigns in the coming months, it will add fuel to an already burning creative fire that the company has going. Throughout 2023, big names like WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and Cody Rhodes have kept fans engaged. At WWE Survivor Series, CM Punk and Randy Orton returned to the fold, further flushing out an already impressive roster and opening the door to creative opportunities.
