The popular Netflix series “Wrestlers” follows pro wrestling legend Al Snow and his business partner, Matt Jones, as they try to keep OVW afloat. The series sees the two men at odds most of the time, as they view the path to success for the promotion slightly differently. Snow has a more old-school and costly approach to doing business that sees the company producing live television each week. Jones seems more inclined to focus on non-televised live events that have less overhead and can yield more profits.
On a recent episode of Rumor & Innuendo, Jones was pressed on how he and Snow plan to continue OVW’s expansion in 2024.
“As far as what we’re doing, we’re going to announce in early January a tour that’s going to take us to about twelve states around the country that we haven’t been to,” he revealed. “In some cases ever, but in all cases, in a few years. And then hopefully in the fall, if it goes well in the spring, we’re gonna go to even more places and, you know, just trying to expand the brand.
“I think what MLW and GCW have done in terms of being able to kind of pick their spots and find where they have crowds, we’re going to try to do that. I don’t know how it’s going to work, but we’re excited to do it. And I want to take, you know, we know what we are. Okay? We know kind of where we are in the pecking order, and so we want to take that to places that maybe don’t even get to see that level very often.
“Me? I’m not interested, for instance, and going to New York and LA, I want to go to like Scranton, and Buffalo, and Syracuse and places like that. Yeah, they may get WWE shows, but their indie shows probably aren’t at the level that we can do. And so let’s see what we can do in those places.”
