WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross returned to AEW Dynamite tonight, calling the main event match between Jon Moxley and Switchblade Jay White. It’s Ross’ first time back at the commentary desk since the November 4 episode of AEW Collision. Around that time, the legendary commentator announced that he would have to step away from work and travel to allow his leg to heal.
Ross has been dealing with an open wound on his leg for quite some time now, with the AEW official previously disclosing that the injury came about due to Ross’ skin cancer treatment. Due to the nature of the injury, it’s proving difficult to heal. Ross recently revealed that he gave up drinking alcohol in an effort to improve his health, and that has made a significant difference.
Tonight’s Dynamite took place in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – Ross’ home state. Though he was born in California, his family has long had ties to the state, and Ross long called it his home. As expected, the crowd gave Ross a very warm welcome as he arrived to call Dynamite’s final match.
While Ross is still signed to AEW, he previously revealed that his contract will expire shortly. Ross is confident that he will sign a new deal with AEW, sharing his desire to call more than just main event matches going forward. The former WWE commentator admitted that he didn’t run the show, however, so that decision is not his to make.
