Breaking: Rey Fenix Pulled From Indie Show Due To Injury

Prestige Wrestling has released the following on social media, announcing that AEW Star Rey Fenix has been pulled from their January 5 show due to injury.

“BREAKING NEWS,” they began. “Due to an injury REY FENIX cannot compete… SAMURAY DEL SOL will now face LIO RUSH at #PrestigeRoseland 7! January 5th, 2024 Portland, Oregon Roseland Theater All Ages Limited floor & balcony tickets still available! http://prestigewrestling.net

There was concern for Fenix following AEW WrestleDream, where he only wrestled for a few minutes in the AEW World Tag Team Fatal-Four Way Number One Contender Match before needing to be escorted to the back by doctors. In a social media post a few days later, he confirmed that he was dealing with “an old injury” but planned to continue to defend the AEW International Championship, which he held at the time.

As champion, he had two more matches after that, a victory over Nick Jackson, followed by a loss to Orange Cassidy, who regained the title. He has not competed in an AEW match since, but based on the fact he took the booking with Prestige, it would seem he thought he was close to a return.

Haus of Wrestling sends its best to Fenix as he continues on his road to recovery.
