As Roman Reigns made his triumphant return to WWE SmackDown this past Friday night, ROH presented its latest pay-per-view offering: Final Battle. The show saw FTR successfully teaming with Mark Briscoe in a Jay Briscoe Tribute Match against Blackpool Combat Club and Kyle Fletcher winning the ROH World Television Championship, among other highlights. The women of ROH took center stage in the main event, as Athena successfully defended her ROH Women’s Championship against Billie Starkz in a nearly thirty-minute battle.
Continuing to build around the women of ROH seems part of Tony Khan’s evolving plans for the product. Per fans in attendance this past Saturday night at the ROH TV tapings following AEW Collision, Khan unveiled a new title, the ROH Women’s TV Championship—no information about how the inaugural champion will be crowned or who will be in contention. The title’s design is similar to the men’s ROH TV Championship.
The addition of the ROH Women’s TV Championship brings the total number of active ROH championships to seven. The other active championships and champions include:
- ROH World Champion: Eddie Kingston
- ROH World Television Champion: Kyle Fletcher
- ROH Pure Champion: Wheeler Yuta
- ROH World Tag Team Champions: MJF and Adam Cole
- ROH World Six-Man Champions: Mogul Embassy
- ROH World Women’s Champion: Athena
Eddie Kingston’s continued reign as Ring of Honor World Champion depends on him winning the AEW Continental Classic. As part of the tournament, Khan has put the ROH and NJPW Strong Championships that Kingston currently holds on the line. The tournament winner will win both titles and a new AEW Continental Championship, becoming an automatic triple crown champion. It appears that the winner will defend all three titles across the AEW, ROH, and NJPW Strong brands following their victory.
ROH Final Battle featured two other women’s matches. Nyla Rose defeated the Vertivixen in a brief singles match, and Taya Valkyrie made short work of Jazmin Allure on the Zero Hour pre-show. Following the victories, both women may be positioned as potential challengers for the new ROH Women’s TV Championship.
