This past Friday night was busy in the world of pro wrestling. Roman Reigns returned to WWE SmackDown, Ring of Honor presented their Final Battle pay-per-view, and CM Punk was again in the commentary booth for Cage Fury Fighting Championship. During the call, he took a moment to address his upcoming return WWE match against “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio while plugging an upcoming non-WWE show on the 30th.
“Listen, ladies and gentlemen, if you are out there on the 30th, you better be watching some grappling unless you are in LA; come out to the LA Kia Forum, watch me beat up ‘Dirty’ Dominik,” he said. “I’ve wanted to punch this kid in the face since he was eight years old. Now he’s legal, and I’m going to destroy him.”
Dominik got wind of Punk’s comments earlier today and responded on X with his own dig.
“Punch me like this please…@CMPunk,” he wrote.
Attached to the post is a gif of Punk botching an attempt at a springboard clothesline, which he tried to salvage by throwing a half-hearted punch.
Coincidentally, or maybe not, the location for that particular botch seems to be from an episode of AEW Dynamite filmed at The Kia Forum. On that show, which took place on June 1, 2022, Punk, AEW World Champion, teamed with FTR to take on The Gunn Club and The Acclaimed’s Max Caster.
Punk and Mysterio are also scheduled to face off on the December 26 WWE Holiday Live Tour event at Madison Square Garden. That bout will serve as the official return match for Punk unless he finds himself in action on tonight’s episode of WWE Raw. Last week, Punk decided to sign with WWE’s red brand and teased a WrestleMania 40 match against Seth “Freaking” Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Beyond a feud with Rollins, others with Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin have also been rumored.
