WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freaking” Rollins has not been shy about giving his opinion of CM Punk this year. During the WWE 2K media event during Royal Rumble weekend earlier this year, Rollins infamously told me Punk was a cancer that he did not want to see back in the promotion. Upon Punk actually returning to the WWE fold, Rollins erupted into a profanity-laced tirade that did not air as part of the actual premium live event. Now, it looks like the two men are on a collision course, possibly for the Rumble or WrestleMania, despite the bad blood that appears to exist between them.
On the Sports Illustrated Media podcast with Jimmy Traina, Rollins was asked when he first found out that Punk was returning to the WWE fold.
“When I heard his music on, what, two weeks ago?” he revealed. “Whatever it was at Survivor Series when I heard his music.”
Rollins was pressed on how he felt about not getting a heads-up and if it annoyed him that he did not get one.
“Yes,” he conceded. “Upon reflection, it’s easy to understand why something like that would be kept as close to the vest as possible. So I understand why, you know, very few people knew what was going on that day. But in the moment, I was extremely emotional. We’ll just put it that way. In the moment, after everything we’d been through and everything the company had been through with that particular person, as well.
“And then the night itself, the match, Randy’s return, all of it. It was a very emotional moment for me. Obviously, if you have any amount of social media you kind of saw how I reacted in the moment. And it was, it was a very raw, real, emotional response for me. Did I go too far? Maybe, but it was what it was; I can’t take it back.”
