The pro wrestling world was turned upside down this past Saturday night when CM Punk made his triumphant return to WWE. In his backyard of Chicago, The Second City Savior received a hero’s welcome and was literally embraced by the city’s faithful fans. One man who did not share the same passion for Punk’s return was WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freaking” Rollins.
Rollins could be seen just outside the WarGames cage, screaming profanities and having to be held back by Michael Cole, Corey Graves, and others. The following night, at a WWE live event, Rollins declined to address Punk by name, much like he did on Raw, saying he would rather talk about the talent who have helped WWE and not tear it down. Fortunately, it sounds as if the animosity between the two is all for show, as it looks like Rollins is working the fans based on his previous negative comments about Punk.
For his part, Punk has remained quiet about Rollins’ reaction to his surprise appearance at Survivor Series and the shots taken at him in promos. That changed today as Punk took to his Instagram Stories to share a cartoon version of his return that a fan drew. In it, he and Randy Orton can be seen waving at each other with big smiles on their faces. A giant pink heart hovers above Punk with the letters “RKO” inside. Rollins is irate, with a bright red comic book-style text blob over his head filled with images meant to represent curse words.
“This is fantastic,” Punk wrote in a caption.
Punk and Rollins will reportedly be feuding shortly, if not already. While not confirmed, their feud may extend across several months and could be the main event of WWE WrestleMania 40 night one. Another big feud on the horizon appears to be with Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. During his return promo, Punk mentioned that a “wise man” gave him good advice before initially exiting WWE roughly ten years ago. Of course, the most notable wise man in WWE is Paul Heyman, who is currently aligned with Reigns and The Bloodline.
