Tonight’s WWE Survivor Series went off the air with a huge surprise: CM Punk returned to the WWE fold.
Following the men’s WWE WarGames match, which was won by Team Rhodes, Cult of Personality blared out over the speakers. Punk strolled down to the ring, hugging fans, but little more was given away about what was going on with The Second City Saint.
During tonight’s WWE Survivor Series press conference, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque commented on Punk’s return. He confirmed that his return to the promotion came together quickly, describing it as “lightning in a bottle.” Furthermore, Levesque was clear that only those closest to the situation knew what was about to happen.
Haus of Wrestling followed up with Levesque about the decision to bring Punk back into the WWE fold and whether Ari Emanuel and Endeavor, the majority owners of TKO Group Holdings, pushed for it to happen. Levesque pushed back, stating that he and Nick Khan ultimately put the deal together. He also noted that some higher-ups at TKO were likely surprised to see Punk on their screen.
I will have more to say on Punk’s return this Monday on the debut edition of Rumor & Innuendo! Noon EST on all Haus of Wrestling social media platforms, @WWECreative_ish, and Ad Free Shows/Podcast Heat social media platforms.
