Earlier this week, Tony Khan announced via X that a brand-new AEW signing will be unveiled at Full Gear. Khan described the mystery talent as “one of the world’s best wrestlers” as well as someone who was “respected by virtually every AEW fan.” Speculation has run rampant about who the signee will be but it now seems like we can rule out at least two major names from the running.
Fightful Select reports that Mercedes Mone, the former Sasha Banks in WWE, is not expected to be revealed as the mystery new signing. The outlet notes that while there have been plans for Mone to work with AEW going as far back as August, it was indicated to them by several sources that the Full Gear signee is not her. They went on to debunk the idea that she could have appeared at AEW Grand Slam earlier this year, noting that she was never in the plans for the show at any point.
Additionally, it looks like Ronda Rousey is unlikely to be signing with the company at the pay-per-view tomorrow. Speculation on Rousey signing with AEW ramped up last night after she headlined a Wrestling Revolver event alongside Marina Shafir against Athena and Billie Starkz, all of whom are signed full-time with the promotion.
Surprisingly, their match ended in a no-contest when Athena hit Rousey with her Ring of Honor Women’s World Championship belt, leading some to believe this could be the beginnings of an AEW or ROH storyline between the two. However, in a post to X earlier today, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful shot down the idea.
In the past, the likes of Christian Cage and Jay Lethal have debuted on AEW pay-per-view to sign their respective contracts with the company. Unlike those situations, however, there doesn’t seem to be a clear-cut answer as to who the mystery signee will be at Full Gear tomorrow night.
