Last month, Haus of Wrestling exclusively reported that Billy Corgan and the NWA had signed a pair of television deals with The CW. The deals would see the NWA’s weekly Powerrr series and an unnamed reality show about the promotion carried on the top twenty television network. Over the weekend, we issued a follow-up report noting that due to the negative publicity stemming from cocaine use on the last NWA PPV, the promotion’s content will likely land on The CW app, as opposed to their actual television airwaves.
PWInsider.com reports that WWE is on the verge of announcing The CW as the new home of NXT. The two sides have talked for weeks about the yellow and black brand moving from cable to a traditional broadcast television network. Now, it is believed the two sides are very close to completing a deal, which is expected to be about five years in length. It is noted that the plan is for WWE NXT to continue to air live and weekly when it makes the move in September 2024. The CW is available in 98% of United States homes, including all top 100 markets.
When, and if, the deal is completed, it will easily be the biggest TV rights fee increase ever for WWE NXT. The likely financial boon for the newest WWE brand will come on the heels of top names being brought to Tuesday nights over the last several months. Last month, when NXT went head-to-head with AEW Dynamite in a rare Tuesday night battle, Paul Heyman, John Cena, LA Knight, The Undertaker, Asuka, and more were brought in to help ensure they leveled their competition viewership-wise. The plan succeeded, as NXT went on to handily win the night in terms of overall eyeballs watching their product.
WWE NXT will present its latest episode tonight at 8/7c on the USA network, which will serve as the new home of SmackDown later next year. It will feature Von Wagner attempting to get revenge on Bron Breakker, who tried to decapitate him months ago with a devastating steel steps spot. Last week, at Halloween Havoc, Wagner’s friend Mr. Stone attempted to wrestle Breakker on his own but was quickly laid out with a spear for a pinfall loss.
