WarGames will return at this year’s WWE Survivor Series, and the two teams were made official during the closing minutes of tonight’s WWE Raw. Following a post-main event brawl, General Manager Adam Pearce showed up to reveal that Finn Balor, Damian Priest, Dominik Mysterio, and J.D. McDonagh of The Judgment Day will face Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, Sami Zayn, and Jey Uso across dual rings inside the steel cell.
Though some of the involved players have shifted around, tensions between The Judgment Day and other members of the Raw roster have been coming to a boil for quite some time, with Rhodes, Zayn, and Uso staying particularly involved with the faction. Since Priest currently holds the Money in the Bank contract and has been teasing a cash-in on Rollins, the World Heavyweight Champion has a major stake in the fight as well.
Tonight’s main event saw Rollins defending his title against Zayn. The match came to a close with Rollins countering Zayn into a roll-up, and as Zayn raised Rollins’ hand in the ring following their bout, The Judgment Day approached the duo looking for a fight. Uso and Rhodes soon arrived as reinforcements before Pearce appeared to make his announcement. Following the WarGames reveal, the two sides continued brawling as the show went off the air.
This is the second consecutive year that WarGames will take place at Survivor Series. Not so coincidentally, it is also the second year that Paul “Triple H” Levesque will be at the helm of creative for the long-running PLE. It seems that WarGames is set to become a new Survivor Series tradition, likely replacing the classic five-on-five elimination matches that used to be a staple for the event.
Survivor Series is set to take place in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday, September 25. In addition to the WarGames match, the event is set to include Rhea Ripley defending the Women’s World Championship against Zoey Stark, as well as The Miz challenging GUNTHER for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
