Paul Wight arrived as backup on tonight’s AEW Dynamite, coming to assist former Jeri-Show tag team partner Chris Jericho along with Kenny Omega. Jericho and Omega have been feuding against The Don Callis Family, consisting of the titular manager as well as Powerhouse Hobbs, Konosuke Takeshita, Kyle Fletcher of Aussie Open, and the now-injured Sammy Guevara. Callis laid out a challenge against Jericho and Omega for a street fight on Dynamite in two weeks, with Omega revealing that Kota Ibushi will make his return to help them. However, Callis pointed out that the addition of Ibushi still left them one man short, seeming to imply that either Callis himself will take part or Guevara will be back in time. It was at that point that Wight made his appearance.
The upcoming street fight will mark Wight’s first wrestling match of any kind since an AEW Dark Elevation taping in March 2022. Since signing with AEW in early 2021, Wight has wrestled just four matches. Before that, the former Big Show had a WWE run in 2020 that saw him wrestle a series of matches on WWE Raw.
Earlier today, a report on Fightful Select indicated that Wight would be the reinforcement Jericho teased last week. It was also stated that Wight was initially set to wrestle back in August at AEW All In, with Satnam Singh also set to be involved. Plans were changed, however, and Wight instead showed up during the pre-show during a segment also featuring Grado, Singh, Jeff Jarrett, and more.
