Tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite started off hot, with MJF picking up his fifth Dynamite Diamond Ring win, this time over Juice Robinson. Following the bout, Robinson’s Bullet Club Gold brethren hit the ring and began to attack Friedman until The Acclaimed came to even the odds. Following the bout, The Gunns challenged Friedman and Adam Cole to an ROH World Tag Team match at Full Gear, followed by Friedman countering with a multi-man match on next week’s Dynamite. Max Caster also attempted to scissor Friedman but was unsuccessful.
On top of all of those matches being made, another was put together when Friedman attempted to walk to the backstage area. As he was about to finish walking up the ramp and walk to the locker room area, Kenny Omega strutted out to his music. As he walked, the commentators put over how Friedman was less than a week away from surpassing Omega’s AEW World Title reign record. To that end, Omega began to make his case for why he deserved a title opportunity, and the champion agreed, stating the match should take place this Saturday night on AEW Collision.
The two men shook hands, making the match official. It is a huge, last-minute bout to be announced, for sure, and it is likely being done to help boost Collision’s viewership, which has regularly taken a hit due to competition. Time will tell if the match pays off with eyeballs.
Friedman is also currently scheduled to defend his AEW World Championship against “Switchblade” Jay White at Full Gear. If Omega is successful, it would appears that match will be changed.
