WWE is set to return to Australia for the first time in over 4 years next February when the Elimination Chamber Premium Live Event emanates from the Optus Stadium in Perth. The company has not hosted an event in the country since October 2019 and its last pay-per-view in the country, Super ShowDown, was held the year prior – headlined by The Undertaker and Triple H in what would be their final match together before both men’s in-ring retirements a few years later.
Speculation emerged earlier today when 7NEWS Adelaide aired an exclusive interview with Rhea Ripley in which it was stated she will “headline” Elimination Chamber. This was also mentioned in the outlet’s X post of the segment which explicitly states that Ripley “will headline the WWE’s first main event in Australia since 2018.” As a result, many took this to mean that the WWE Women’s World Champion will compete in the main event of the Premium Live Event next year. However, it doesn’t look like this is, in fact, the case.
Haus of Wrestling spoke to a WWE source about the speculation who stated that “Rhea Ripley will be on the show, and creative will dictate the match and match position.” They also added that this is a case of “local news doing what they do, but all good.” This seems to be a similar situation to The Western Australia reporting last month that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson could wrestle at the event. A senior member of WWE PR subsequently told Haus of Wrestling that that was a case of “tabloids being tabloids.”
Haus of Wrestling was also told that internally, Ripley is getting praise for the amount of promotion she is doing for the show. Aside from her interview with 7NEWS Adelaide, she has also spoken to other Australian outlets like Sports News Australia and The Advertiser in recent days.
Haus of Wrestling has partnered with Inside The Ropes to present An Afternoon With Kevin Nash And Sean Waltman on November 25 at Joe’s Live in Rosemont, IL, ten minutes from the All-State Arena. Tickets are now available at JoesLiveRosemont.com.
