The Wednesday Night War was resurrected last night, on a Tuesday, between WWE NXT and AEW. Due to MLB coverage, AEW was forced out of its usual Wednesday night timeslot and went head-to-head with its longtime competition. The stakes were high for both sides as they looked to notch up a viewership win amid ongoing content rights talks.
SportsTVRatings reports that last night’s episode of WWE NXT drew an average of 921,000 viewers, with about 396,000 in the coveted P18 – 49 demo. It drew a .30 rating. This was NXT’s highest overall viewership since September 25, 2019. It was up 7% from last week’s average audience of 857,000 viewers and was up 37% in the key demo.
AEW Dynamite: Title Tuesday drew an average overall audience of 609,000 viewers, with about 346,000 of those in the key demo. It drew a .26 rating. It was down 24% from last week’s 800,000 viewers and 5% in the key demo.
Wrestlenomics reports that the only AEW quarter-hour to defeat WWE in the key demo included Chris Jericho vs Powerhouse Hobbs, a Kingdom vignette, and the start of Rey Fenix vs. Orange Cassidy. WWE NXT had more overall viewership in every quarter hour. The most-watched quarter-hour for WWE NXT and AEW Dynamite was the first quarter-hour, with NXT drawing an average of 992,000 viewers and AEW bringing in about 731,000.
