Rey Fenix Provides Injury Update Following AEW WrestleDream

Rey Fenix caused concern at AEW WrestleDream this past weekend when he was seemingly injured at the event. The recently-crowned AEW International Champion was part of a four-way tag team match at the event alongside his Lucha Brothers partner Penta El Zero Miedo against The Young Bucks, The Gunns as well as Orange Cassidy & HOOK. Just minutes into the bout Fenix was spotted being escorted backstage by fans and did not reappear, sparking fears that he may have suffered an injury.

Now for the first time since WrestleDream, Fenix has addressed his status in a post to his Instagram account and admitted he is once again dealing with “an old injury.” He revealed that the injury stems from his AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam match with Jon Moxley (who also suffered a concussion that night, forcing a title change to be called on the fly) but did not specify what the exact injury is.

“The international championship has been a big challenge,” Fenix admitted. “The night I became champion, I left the arena with the championship in my hands and with an old injury bothering me again. My first defense was painful, it did not allow the pain to stop me and continue until the fight was over, this coming Wednesday will be my second defense and I am doing my best to enter that ring and retain the champion[ship].

I will defend this beautiful championship in any situation, a Luchador does not give up, a Luchador will always leave everything in every battle. I am a real Luchador and the man of a thousand lives, nothing and no one is going to stop me. R3Y F3N1X.” At the time of writing, Fenix is still scheduled to defend the AEW International title against Nick Jackson on tomorrow’s edition of AEW Dynamite.
