Jon Moxley Returns At AEW WrestleDream In Non-Wrestling Role

During tonight’s AEW WrestleDream pay-per-view, former AEW World Champion Jon Moxley returned to the promotion after reportedly suffering a concussion on September 20. Moxley first appeared during the company’s Zero Hour pre-show, sitting in on commentary for his Blackpool Combat Club stablemate Claudio Castagnoli against Josh Barnett. Later on, Moxley returned, joining Nigel McGuinness, Jim Ross, and Excalibur during Wheeler Yuta vs. Ricky Starks and sticking around for Bryan Danielson’s match against Zack Sabre Jr.

Moxley was reported to have suffered the concussion early on during his match against Rey Fenix at AEW Grand Slam. The injury came just weeks after Moxley won the AEW International Championship from Orange Cassidy, and the concussion was said to have caused an audible that saw Fenix win the title. During tonight’s show, Fenix may have been injured as well, though it’s still unclear whether the injury was legitimate or an angle. Prior to his match tonight, it was announced that Fenix would defend the International Championship against Nick Jackson this Wednesday on AEW Dynamite.

Castagnoli defeated Barnett in the pre-show bout, with Barnett telling the former Ring of Honor World Champion that they would meet again one day. Yuta, however, was not able to get the job done. With some light interference from Big Bill, Starks was able to land a Rochembeau on Yuta for the victory. Following the loss, Moxley was surprisingly easy on Yuta while speaking on commentary, stating that he was less concerned with Yuta’s matches today as he is about how the young wrestler performs in two or three years.
