After missing last week’s WWE SmackDown, reportedly due to a COVID-19 infection, LA Knight made a grand return on tonight’s episode. Knight came to the aid of John Cena against Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa of The Bloodline as Cena found himself outnumbered against the two. Prior to the fight, Cena announced that he would look for a partner to face Uso and Sikoa with at WWE Fastlane next Saturday or face them alone, but it now seems quite clear that Cena and Knight will partner up at the premium live event.
A great deal of anticipation was built toward Cena’s appearance tonight, with Uso claiming at the top of the show that Cena wasn’t present and commentary keeping the audience informed over the course of the night that Cena was delayed but on his way. Once he arrived, Cena offered to face Uso and Sikoa in a handicap match at the upcoming WWE Fastlane if he could not find a partner. Now, next weekend’s show will mark the first time that Cena and the rising star Knight team up in the ring.
Cena’s current WWE run comes during a SAG-AFTRA strike that could be winding down. The Writer’s Guild of America, which was also on strike, came to an agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers on a new contract earlier this week. Following that, there is some belief that SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP will find some common ground as negotiations resume starting Monday. Once the strike is over, Cena will likely return to work in Hollywood after fulfilling his agreed-upon dates with WWE.
