Just six months on from his return to AEW following a series of concussion issues, Adam Cole is once again out with injury. Cole, who currently holds one half of the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championship, hurt himself during AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam last week when he ran to ringside to support his tag partner MJF. Cole jumped from the entrance ramp to the ringside area during the show’s main event, seemingly tweaking his left leg in the process which caused him to noticeably limp throughout the remainder of his appearance.
Now, one week later, Cole has provided fans with an update on his condition and unfortunately, it wasn’t good news. Appearing alongside MJF on last night’s edition of AEW Dynamite, Cole appeared with a cast on his leg and was supported by crutches. He announced to the Colorado crowd that he had indeed injured himself at Grand Slam last week and had specifically broken his ankle in three places alongside tearing several ligaments, which will require him to undergo surgery in the near future.
As a result, Cole will be unable to defend the ROH World Tag Team titles alongside MJF at AEW WrestleDream this weekend in their previously-announced bout against Vincent and Dutch of The Righteous. Cole was about to announce that he and MJF would relinquish the belts but Friedman cut him off, saying that Cole would never have been injured had he not tried to help him at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Instead, he proclaimed that he would defend the titles against The Righteous by himself in a handicap match this Sunday.
Following the show, Cole’s long-time girlfriend Britt Baker shared photos of Cole’s injured ankle alongside an x-ray of the injury via her official X account. She went on to praise her partner by stating, “this guy broke his ankle in 3 places on a freak accident. He still hobbled around on live tv because as we like to say “the show must go on”. @AdamColePro gives his entire heart and soul to pro wrestling. He’s one tough cookie and this is just a small bump in the road. He’ll be back better than ever BAYBAY.”
